Video, a Better Way to Communicate to Attendees

We are trapped in a world of information overload. We often underestimate how overwhelmed our attendees feel when we are loading up our event pages with written content followed by a slew of emails with yet more written instructions and content.
There are lots of tools available now that can help us mix up the way we deliver information to our attendees. One of my favorites is Loom.
Loom is a video messaging tool that helps you get your message across through instantly shareable videos. With Loom, you can record your camera, microphone, and desktop simultaneously. Your video is then instantly available to share through Loom’s patented technology.”
We recently had a situation with an event participant that could have easily been resolved using a Loom video.
The attendee had registered to participate in an event. After registering and collecting his first donation, he was having trouble finding the tax receipt. We had responded by email and explained that when the donation was made the system sent him two emails. One was a transaction receipt and the other included the official tax receipt. We said “all you have to do is click on the link”.
The attendee wrote back more frustrated. His response said that he didn’t want to have to login to collect his receipt. We knew there was no login necessary but were clearly not explaining ourselves correctly. All of this would have been quickly resolved if we have created a Loom video. With the video we would have been able to not only explain it verbally but show him on the screen exactly what he needed to do to find his receipt.

“How to” videos have replaced the old fashion way of researching instructions. YouTube is full of how to videos, in fact there is a stat that says 30% of people searching on YouTube are for how to videos.

In our scenario specifically, a simple how to video would have cut down on 5 or 6 emails and 2-15 minute calls. Not that we mind helping of course but it would have alleviated the unnecessary stress it caused.

Loom allows you to do a direct show and tell. While you speak you can be clicking and pointing on your screen. Loom records it all and turns it into a professional looking how to video.

How can you use Loom to make your next event better?

  1. Registration instructions
  2. Instructions on how to use the Zoom “hand up” function
  3. A run through of the virtual platform you are using
  4. A personalized explanation of where an exhibitor can find his/her booth on the tradeshow floor plan
  5. How to make an on-line donation

And my most favorite way is sending a personalized video to an attendee that has a specific question. I received one of these videos in a training course I was taking. I was having trouble finding a particular document in the course material and my coach responded personally and showed me exactly what I was looking for. Adding that personal touch goes a long way!
