Add that Extra Element with these Food Trends at Your Next Event

More than just boring soup and sandwiches or the latest pasta bar, food can really be a feature at your next event. Corporate Food trends these days aren’t just about keeping your guests’ taste buds happy, the can be so much more. Visually stunning, interactive, and even an element of an “experience” in what you serve up can add that extra punch to make your event one to remember.

Looking through Pinterest at all the Corporate Events has me watering at the mouth! The food ideas, flavours, layouts and presentation these days is stunning!! Corporations are in their planning phase for year end events already so I thought I would share some of the spectacular spreads I have been seeing online these days to help with a little “foodinspiration” for your next corporate event.

Here are my top 5 Corporate Food Trends:

  1. The Food Truck:

Food Trucks add such a great element to an event. Most of the food is prepared right then and there and is served straight from the truck to the attendee, so it’s super fresh! The SmoqueShack was a great addition to the Casino Night Corporate Party we organized last November. The food was incredible and the smell that lingered as guests were mingling was an excellent lead up to the meal being served. The venue had a large garage door that we raised when the food was ready which made for easy access to the side of the truck. For outdoor summer tented events a food truck makes for a great alternative to the traditional caterer that sets up warming trays on tables and offers buffet service. The variety of food truck options in absolutely incredible too, so much more that the usual burgers and fries. Ottawa itself has quite an outstanding food truck community; from authentic Korean cuisine from Raon Kitchen, to homestyle southern cooking from Urban Cowboy and even Ad Mare, a seafood truck.

  1. Cheeseburger on a Stick

A new take on appetizers; go beyond the “Burger Sliders” trend and embrace a healthier bite with these Bacon Cheeseburger Meatballs on a Stick! Great little gluten free bites of goodness with no carbs. They are also easily interchangeable to feature whatever you love on a buger. Add in mushrooms, onions or avocado to change things up. Additionally adding some little spicey mayo, fine mustard, and ketchup pots on the side for dipping.

  1. Dessert Shooters

Dessert in a Shot Glass??!! What could be more perfect, of course there better be a little alcohol in those desserts 😉 I love these because not only are they easy to grab and eat while mingling, they are also visually stunning! The possibilities are endless for shot glass desserts. Tiramisu, Baileys Cheesecake, Dark Chocolate Kahlua Cake,  to name a few. Don’t forget the tiny little spoons to go with it.

These gorgeous cheesecakes were made by our friends at Sugar House Cakes.

  1. The Pretzel Bar:

Grab a soft baked pretzel and choose your favourite flavours and dips! These are great because there are many different ways to display them. Personally I love them hanging, but just make sure you have someone rehanging fresh ones or it could get bare pretty quick. Alternatively you could have them sitting in bread baskets, on cake stands or pyramid stacked.

The flavour options are excellent. Prefer something sweet? Go for a caramel, or cinnamon and sugar coating. Into the Savoury flavours? Cheese, ranch or a variety of mustards are perfect for pretzel dipping!

  1. The Martini Bar

I love this DIY Bar idea; The DIY Martini Bar, especially for smaller events. For larger ones I would definitely have a bar tender nearby 🙂 A DIY Martini Bar is not only a great way to serve alcohol, it is an interactive experience for your guests. The DIY Martini Bar would be a great addition to a James Bond or Casino Theme Night, (aka 007 style) or any high end black tie event.

There are other DIY bar options as well, like a Mule Bar. Get your ginger beers, limes and lemons alongside whiskey, tequila and vodka. Here your guests can choose then choose to make a Kentucky Mule, Tijuana Mule or a Moscow Mule.

This is a personal favourite of our owner, she’s our resident martini lover!
