Award Winning Ottawa Event Planning

I Learned So Much

I Learned So Much

When I first arrived at In the Moment three months ago, I never imagined that I would have as much fun as I did. I knew that event planning was something I enjoyed doing, but I didn’t realize how much I enjoyed it until I was refolding stacks of pamphlets for the Dandelion Festival, or arriving on-site at 5:00 am for a wedding.

It was exciting and rewarding to see the work we put into the preparation of each event culminate in a gorgeous moment for our clients and their guests. Sometimes there were hiccups along the way, but working with the right people meant that no problem was impossible to solve.

One of my favourite memories from this summer at ITM is laying out the rose petal aisle for one of our weddings. The aisle was made up of four different colours of rose petals that faded into each other, creating an ombre aisle that faded from hot pink to cream. It was beautiful to see it beside the rows of gold chiavari chairs set-up for the wedding ceremony. It’s amazing to see all the little details come together to create a spectacular day for the bride and groom and all their guests.

I learned so much from my co-op placement, both about the event planning industry and about myself. Many of the lessons I learned about event planning were things I wouldn’t have learned just by reading a textbook, and I’ll never forget them because I experienced them myself.

I look forward to learning more about the world of event planning, and hospitality and tourism when I return to school in September and I can share the tips and tricks I learned from my summer co-op at ITM. Working for In the Moment has given me many moments and lessons that I’ll carry into my future endeavours in the hospitality industry.

Analytical by nature, Julia excels at conceptualizing the vision for an event as well as managing details large and small. She is a strategic thinker who considers the lifespan impact of an event, taking great care to plan an event today so that it evolves into her clients’ vision of the event five years from now. Julia and her team also work closely with clients with long-running events to analyze the event’s strengths and challenges, and refresh the event to take it to the next level. When Julia isn’t planning unforgettable events, she loves travelling the world with her family, staying active, and enjoying fine food and martinis.
