My adventure for this week has begun. I am sitting aboard a train watching the beautiful scenery pass by my window. I am relaxed and ready to enjoy a fun filled week of learning. I am off to Toronto for the Canadian Special Events Expo 2012. And as you can imagine I AM SO EXCITED!!!
I am just as excited for this three hour train trip as I am for the convention itself. I love traveling by train. I have no one sitting beside me so my bags are in the seat beside me, my legs are comfortably stretched out and I’m working away on my laptop. I have alot of work to get done over the next three hours but I have been looking forward this alone time for a long time. Time to myself to get organized, get my email cleaned up again and get my head back on straight. My handsome hubby dropped me off at the train station. I treated myself to a 4 minute massage for $2 in one of those massage chairs in the train station. Pretty great massage for $2. As soon as the guy took my ticket he asked if I wanted anything to eat so I ordered a blueberry smoothie and a cheese platter…yummy.
I should be arriving in Toronto around 7:30 tonight. I will walk to my hotel. I think I might head down to the gym and get a run in before bed then head back to my room where I will put on my comfy pj’s I brought and get some more work done.
I have so much I need to do over the next three days along with full days of learning. I have to update my website so I can let you all you know whatupcoming events we have and what we’ve been up to all winter. Like I mentioned I have to get through all my emails. I have to start confirming our entertainment for the kids zone at the Dandelion Festival. I have to prepare the sponsor package for the Ottawa West Golden Knights and Perth Blue Wings golf tournaments. I have costumes and accessories I have to add to our website and I have to update all of my other clients on where their events are at.
I am so excited about what I am going to learn this week. I have never attended this conference before so I am not exactly sure how it works but I would think I get to choose which sessions I want to attend. Let’s go over the schedule for day 1 and see what my choices are. So, tomorrow morning I start out with breakfast at 8:00am, The Inspiration Breakfast – Colour Outside the Lines and it includes a live performance by Jessica Gorlicky of JessGo. I have no idea who that is but it sounds great. Alright then the rest of the schedule is divided into two sections, for event planners and for wedding planners, so I am going to try to do some wedding stuff and some event stuff. So at 9:15-12 I have a choice of attending three sessions that are described as “Grab a spot on the couch or settle into a sleek lounger and get ready to learn by experience. For the first time ever at CSE, the Experience Sessions feature an intimate conversation with three of the most successful event producers/entrepreneurs in the industry. Its 2.5 hours of event stories, lessons, ideas, philosophy and advice – live and unplugged!” or three wedding sessions, Ground Breaking Design Trends for Weddings, The Business of Brilliant Weddings and The Care & Feeding of Bridezilla. They both sound really great…what to choose, what to choose??? Any thoughts?
Over lunch there is a keynote speaker, Jane Dayus-Hinch, Plan…to be a Brand. After lunch I have choice of 4 sessions but I know which two I will be attending for sure. From 2-3 I will attending Disaster by Design: Creating & Implementing Your Emergency Management Plan and The Art of the Deal – Strategies for Sponsorship & Raising Money. I am so excited for the second session, it is going to be so helpful with my upcoming golf tournaments.
The last part of the night is the Opening Night Party at The Fermenting Cellar. The party is called Industrial Chic. My comfort zone tells me I don’t want to attend but I am throwing all that out the window and am going to force myself to go even though I don’t know anyone. I won’t meet anyone or make new business contacts sitting in my room will I.
A pretty full first day. I am exhausted just thinking about it. But I am still SO EXCITED!! 🙂
