I had a wonderful site visit to the charming Opinicon back in early February. Located off Hwy 15 between Smiths Falls and Kingston, on the Chaffey’s Locks Rd. in Elgin, it is a piece of the Rideau system history. Holding fond memories for families, fisherman, and the locals, it stood abandoned for years till a family purchased it at auction and the revitalization began!
The site in February was loud with tools, and construction workers busy getting cabins and the main lodge ready for this season startup. It was exciting to see the improvements and plans for their second year in full swing.
We are very excited to be working with them as a preferred wedding planner for their clients wedding celebrations on site. And we can’t wait for the snow to melt, and their renovations to be complete to return for a walk through again this Spring. It is a dream destination wedding venue right here in our local area!
Have you dreamt of renting out an entire quaint resort property for your wedding to celebrate in relaxed style with your family and friends? Think Kellerman’s from the movie Dirty Dancing….right? How amazing is that! Everyone with their own cabin space, wandering along the paths amongst the pine and spruce and rocky canadian shield down to the waters edge to witness your vows, kids playing at the play structure, enjoying cones from the ice cream parlour, guests enjoying ice tea on the verandah, dancing and dining in the 110 year old dining room!
Want to learn a little more about it’s history and new owners : Opinicon in the news
It would make a great date excursion, dinner in the dining room, step off your boat and enjoy and ice cream! Take your family for your summer vacation and stay in a remodelled cabin and enjoy the fishing!
