When it comes to stocking Halloween costumes here’s the differences I’ve noticed between the big box stores and a small company like myself…
1. Stock selection – Although I cannot carry multiples of every costume in every size, I have personally chosen what I think would be best. I have chosen a selection of fun and original costumes in one size only so that you will not walk down the street on October 31st and see 10 people wearing the same costume or show up at a costume party only to find out that you’re not the only couple that thought mustard and ketchup was the best Famous Couples Costume.
2. The cost of accessorizing – Have you ever purchased a costume only to find out that it doesn’t actually come with everything you see in the picture. A pirate costume that is listed at $35 on the price tag does not tell you that you’ll also have to buy the sword, the eye patch and the parrot at an additional cost of $25. I have carefully reviewed each costume and tried to make sure all the accessories have been included in the price of the costume. They may not be the exact same accessory as seen in the photo but it is either equivalent or better. No surprises.
3. Low prices – I have no staff or rent to pay to sell these costumes which means that I can keep my prices down. I have compared my prices with a few other big name costume stores and I am certain my prices can match or beat them. I was shopping at a local small town store a few weeks back and I commented that her prices are so good. She smiled and said, “Thanks, I price things at what I would pay for them.” What a great thought, sure I could mark everything up 100-120% but then I would sit on a large amount of stock for long periods of time. I would rather get to keep restocking with newer items on a regular basis.
4. My favorite difference…I am as excited as you are! I have been busting at the seams waiting for this stock to arrive. After confirming today that the shipment will arrive in only two days I have decided that I am not able to wait any longer and I have started posting the items on my website. Although my supplier was not able to confirm exactly what is coming they were able to confirm the amount of the bill which told me that pretty much everything I ordered was in stock.
Check out what’s coming and spread the word. Help a small town business succeed at something they are passionate about!
