An Abundant Thank You

Crisp autumn air, crackling leaves underfoot, rich colours of fall.  It’s my favourite time of year and we hosted the perfect fall event at the perfect site!  Heritage Harvest Farms contacted us to assist with a customer appreciation event on site at their rural Jasper farm (as seen on Regional Contact).  

Nestled in the country, surrounded by chickens, cows, and farmland, we erected a tent to seat 40 clients for a four course meal comprised completely of food supplied by their farm. I arrived the day of the event to the family busy in the yard, raking leaves, and doing final primping of their working farm, as chickens lazily pecked and scratched beneath our feet.  The setting was beautiful, and perfect for the style of event that was planned.

Guests arrived to be shown around by the family, to see where their weekly food delivery comes from, then entered the tent flagged by hay bales, and autumn arrangements, to an adorable wine barrel bar with barn board table top and cocktail tables with mason jar candles.  We offered local Perth Brewing Company beer, wine, and warm Kilmarnock Orchards apple cider to guests as they arrived.  
 It was a great find to discover a vintage rental company in Merrickville, thanks to Natalie of the Sugar Post, for the items that added to our “rural” feel.  It was important that the event reflect the importance of community, and local, that we together create, support and make a difference in our world and everyday lives. 

Two harvest tables were spread with the bounties of autumn as centerpieces: apples, gourds, leaves, acorns, eggplant, artichokes, and plenty of candlelight.  Along with garden white lights strung in the canopy, it was warm and cozy. We contracted Nicole of the Branch in Kemptville to work with the client and design a menu to highlight the best of their harvest.  

Guests were treated to kale salad with smoked and braised lamb, grilled onions, garlic, apple-maple vinaigrette, farm cheese, followed by coconut curry pumpkin soup, with farm fresh baguette and butter (yes that the client makes herself!), wood-grilled beef tenderloin with buttery mashed potatoes, roasted beets, carrots and parsnips and from-scratch demi-glace gravy and to finish individual apple galettes with caramel sauce and whipped cream.  It was decadent and elegant and amazing.  I hope the guests enjoyed the experience as much as we at ITM did, it was a wonderful event to be a part of.  And a special thank you to our little helper Isha for all of her assistance over the course of setup and teardown.

Angela VanWingerden is a focused logistics dynamo with nearly 20 years of experience in the events industry. Since obtaining her BA of Commerce in Hospitality from the University of Guelph in 1998, she has built an impressive portfolio of weddings, corporate events and fundraisers for hundreds of satisfied clients. Angela enjoys the entire event planning process from chaos to order and back again. An avid trouble-shooter, Angela has her finger on the pulse of every event she manages. When on-site, she constantly monitors every element of the event to ensure client satisfaction. Angela works closely with staff and volunteers to ensure that they know what their duties are and she provides oversight at the event itself to ensure that all responsibilities and expectations are met. When she isn’t designing and coordinating awe-inspiring events, Angela loves spending time with her family.
