A Pinterest Inspired Party

A Pinterest Inspired Party
On November 28, 1997 I married the man of my dreams. We “dated” in grade 7 and again in grade 8 then I dated his best friend all through high school. When his best friend finally broke my heart one too many times I found myself in the arms of my old fling and by this time a really good friend. We had gone through high school in the same circle of friends and we both admired each other from afar. He was the shy, quiet type…really shy. He couldn’t even look you in the eye when he spoke or was spoken to. When we started dating I loved that he loved to listen to me talk. Having come from a relationship where I was the sidekick it was nice that someone actually wanted to hear what I had to say. I remember how safe I felt with him.
On September 1 this year we celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary. Why in September you ask. Well, simple I wanted to have an outdoor party that everyone could enjoy. End of November is in the middle of Christmas party season and it’s cold. And who knows, maybe we’ll get too celebrations out of it 🙂
As I think I have told you, my new favorite idea inspiration is Pinterest. I love searching through great image inspiration. I often don’t read the story line behind the images, I just love to look at the pictures. For our anniversary party we pulled off 6 Pinterest inspired ideas.

The feature I was most excited about was setting up a super long table out under a tree all covered in white linens and candles. I am driven by photographs and because we don’t have a full grown tree like the one in the photo above I couldn’t wrap the photos of our almost 20 year relationship around the tree so I came up with a beautiful alternative that I actually liked even better. We had games set up all over the yard for the kids and the kids at heart, including a painted twister game just like the one you see here. And to end the night off we set up an outdoor movie theatre and popcorn bar for those who wished  to chill out. Check out some of the wonderful photographs taken by friends and the photographer, Breanne Link, that I hired to capture our special day.

Table for lots
My favorite feature was the sheer beauty of this gorgeous table set for about 60. We couldn’t seat everyone at the table but just about everyone. Again, another spectacular feature of the party, even after the sun went down.
Twister
The kids and some of the parents enjoyed our hand made Twister game that we spray painted onto the grass. We used the regular Twister spinner that comes with the regular board game.
Fun and Games
Along with volleyball, croquet, tether ball and several other activities we also included a ping pong table set up in a nice little area between some trees. You’ll see below how gorgeous it looked in the evening once the sun went down.
Old Details
I was able to pull out of storage some of the old items from our wedding I’ve been hanging on to including our cake topper and the wine glasses my uncle engraved for use to use at our wedding dinner.
Photographic Memories
Instead of wrapping the photographs around a big tree I clothes pinned over 250 pictures of the last 19+ years of our life together on a gorgeous old fence in our backyard. Everyone loved walking along the fence and reminiscing.
Tasty Food
On the menu was a pork tenderloin that we started the night before and a 22lb roast. We asked our friends and family to bring everything else. Our friends are the greatest, they love not only contributing but when challenged to try something new they never disappoint. This photograph here looks like a tray of sliders when in fact it is a tray of mini burger cupcakes.
Evening Entertainment
As the sun set we invited all of our friends to join us on a sunset tractor ride around our beautiful property. The ride only took about 15 minutes but it was just enough time for some of our friends to help tidy up dinner, put out dessert and light all the candles and plug in all the lights we had strung that morning.
Evening Beauty
Not as many people stayed at the table as I thought would but it was still worth every effort.
Fireworks
It’s not a party in the country without our very own fireworks.
Popcorn Bar
The outdoor movie theatre was a huge hit with the younger kids and their parents. Everyone enjoyed taking their little paper bag and filling it up with popcorn and treats and then covering it all with their favorite popcorn seasoning.
Nighttime Play
The ping pong madness didn’t end until the party ended. While most of us sat around the fire the others kept the fun up thanks to the lighting that had been strung over the table to create a fantastic summer playground.
The party was such a huge success that it appears this has now become an annual event. So we’ll see you again next fall when I post all of the new ideas we pulled off at our Labour Day Weekend Celebration…or the O’Grady Harvest Moon Celebration…or the End Of  Summer Celebration…oh, who knows what it will be called, either way, be here and be inspired to throw your very own Pinterest inspired event.
Trevor and I are so grateful for the wonderful life we live and for the wonderful family and friends we have that. We are the luckiest people in the world. Thank you to all of you who have helped us reach this wonderful mark in our marriage and thank you for making this day such a wonderful memory.  xoxo
