Love is Proud 2018

Love is Proud 2018

It takes a long time to build something from scratch. Love is Proud started four years ago. The first year was good, attendance, interest in the event from area services and business, media. The second year was challenging, weather and show location impacted attendance at the event. This year was amazing! In order to make things work like you dreamed they would you have to be willing to listen, learn and make changes until you get the chemistry just right. We did it this year! All the pieces came together just like we have always dreamed it would.

After last year’s event we were ready to give up. We had a room full of vendors but yet again struggled to get the couples through the door despite having sold more than 65 tickets to the event. We were approached after the event by one of the vendors who had been at the show. He convinced us not to give up. He wanted in, he wanted to be a part of what were doing. So, the first big change we made this year was to add a new face to the event, Michael Donovan of Donovan Dream Design. Michael brought fresh ideas and eyes to the event.  He also represented the community we were promoting the show to, and is planning his own nuptials!  A combination we were sure would be a win – win.

The next big change we made to the event was moving it to an intimate venue, something with a more social vibe instead of the standard tradeshow space.  This meant we had to limit the number of vendors that could participate, but would continue our stratgey of creating an environment where couples could feel relaxed, welcome and have the opportunity to talk with wedding professionals about their plans and how they could best assist.

We had 26 participating professionals, spread out on the second floor of the Mill St. Brew Pub Ottawa in various table displays.  Along with a showcase table by Party Time Rentals, Donovan Dream Designs and the Gathering Event Co.  Guests were treated to finger foods and beer and cider samples courtesy of the Mill St.

We were entertianed by the fabulous Koston Kreme of Ottawa.  Her three burlesque performances kept things spicy through the day!  Scott of Quality Entertainment is now requesting her at every event he attends!

So with this wrap up we will be back in 2019!  Intimate venue, select vendors, for a specific target market, who tell us every year just how much they appreciate it, and that they still can’t find it at any of the other shows in Ottawa!  Thank you Ottawa Wedding Professionals for supporting your LGBTQ+ community.
