Something for everyone at the Dandelion Festival
It all started three years ago when I was happy to help with any type of event I could get my hands on just so I could get more experience and get known. By year two I was being groomed to take over the event. This year was the year. The year I was deemed “The Big Cheese”. Of course that title was only meant in good humour. I can’t tell you how honoured I was to be heading up the festival this year. I love being a part of the community and working to have our community come together to accomplish something amazing.
My goal for this year was to work with the Board of Directors and the Planning Committee to excel at the things the festival already did amazingly well and help to strengthen its weaknesses. The amount of work that went on in the background this year was incredible. I couldn’t have asked to work with a better group of committed individuals. The passion for the festival in this group was second to none.
We were able to accomplish getting the festival back on the main streets of downtown Kemptville, getting the largest number of vendors to participate and really focus our attention on making the festival reflect our theme of the dandelion. Yes that’s the right, the weed. We had a great deal of fun and many laughs over some dandelion ideas for the festival.
Some of my favourite features of the festival this year were; the Dandelion Dinner held on the Friday night, I loved the number of vendors we had and I loved that almost every store on the main streets opened for the entire weekend adding to the festival goers experience of what Kemptville has to offer.
"Hey -- a quick message to say I picked up the Dandelion Festival's schedule leaflet. That alone looks amazing! So well put together and professional. You are bringing real integrity to this event, Julia. You're putting Kemptville and ITM on the map. The schedule itself is impressive. I have had nothing to do with this event except watch from afar and this little leaflet makes me feel proud to be a part of Kemptville. Yay, Julia for what you are doing. There is a whole new energy and buzz to this year's event. And I know it's you. I know you are crazy busy right now, but know you are making a difference and people are sitting up and taking notice. The naysayers and doubters I'm sure have been converted and those who believed all along have only been strengthened. Kudos, Lady, kudos."
