Amanda and Xavier – Ottawa Valley Wedding

When I sit down to write our portfolio posts about our clients I always try to think about the one thing that stood out most about working with the particular client. In this case, hands down, it was that Amanda and Xavier were always smiling. Their smiles are the most genuine, heart felt smiles I think I have ever seen.

As their photographer, Rob Whelan Photography, tells the story on his blog, Amanda and Xavier were faced with rain like we had not seen this year and it came out of nowhere with no warning. Then disappeared, then reappeared, then disappeared and eventually shut our night down by knocking out the power. Not once through getting soaked and eventually having to shut the party down early, Amanda and Xavier never stopped smiling. At the end of the somewhat early night they looked at us and “it was perfect”.

Along with running the venue for them, Amanda and Xavier asked us to provide them with “day-of” coordination services (again, that’s in quotation marks because day-of services don’t really exist, contact us to find out what that really means and how that service will make you smile like Amanda and Xavier did) to ensure that their day came together as perfectly they dreamed it would.

I spent the morning with bride and her entourage. The girls got ready the Kemptville Suites on Clothier Street in Kemptville. The suites are such a great place to get ready for any couple getting married in the area not only because the rooms are gorgeous and give you enough room to spend your morning but because of the spa downstairs, Aphroditi Espcape Salon and Spa. It made it so easy for our bride to have her hair and make up done.

This group of girls truly love each other. My favourite thing about these girls was that two would cry all the time and two would not. It was so funny.

“The boys” in this wedding party won me over when the bride and groom finished their perfectly choreographed first dance and they all went over and high-fived and hugged the groom.

Working with Amanda and Xavier was a true blessing. Working with couples who are truly in love with each other, who are down to earth and who roll with what their day throws at them are always such a delight. I will never forget the way Amanda and Xavier respect each other and most importantly smile at each other.

I think the most memorable moment of the entire day had to be when the power went out one last time and was clearly not going to come back on. By that time we had thankfully finished all the formalities…except for one…The Tango! The bride and groom had specifically scheduled their tango into the night. The bride had a different dress and different shoes to wear so there was no way they were going to miss this. As I mentioned the power was out. Which meant not only did we not have lights, the DJ, Something Blue Wedding DJs didn’t have power either. But! That did not stop the DJ from making sure this dance happened. He grabbed his phone and searched for the chosen song. We hushed the room and the music played quietly from the phone while all the guests surrounded Amanda and Xavier with whatever light sources we could drum up. The dance ended in a huge group hug.
